How to sell your pushchairs, prams and buggies

Tips when buying and selling.

 Successful selling tips:

  • Image quality is the key. Wherever possible upload a picture of your actual pushchair rather than using the stock image, so the buyer can see the exact product. This will reduce any risk of an unhappy purchaser refusing to accept delivery or sending the item back after purchase.
  • Advert description.  Make sure you give as much detail about the condition of the pushchair and accessories as possible, even list the faults if any. I.e.: Stains or missing cover etc.
  • Where possible allow the buyer to view the pushchair before purchase if requested. However, if you do so it is recommended that you have a friend or family member with you at all times.
  • NOTE: All prams and pushchairs, both new and used, must comply with British Standard 7409:1996 or BS EN 1888:2003 (an equivalent European standard). A label indicating compliance should be found on the frame or seating cover of the pram/pushchair.
Tips for buying online:-

  • Read the item description carefully. If the image and description look like they may have been copied from another source, research the product and price before buying.
  • Review the price and shipping details. Remember if a price seems too good to be true, it probably is!  Make sure you understand the cost and terms of shipping before agreeing.
  • Making payment. Never pay into an overseas bank account or via western union.
  • Overseas traders.  All Pushchair Expert sellers must be located in the UK. If you find otherwise, please report it to info@pushchairtrader.co.uk.

Communication

  • Keep in contact with the seller to ensure you are clear about the payment process and the delivery expectations.  Most sellers will expect payment to clear before the goods are dispatched, which can take a couple of days depending on the payment type.
  • Buying a pre-owned pushchair.  If the seller is using one of our stock photos make sure you check the actual colour, brand and condition of the pushchair with the seller before buying to avoid disappointment. You will often find that the quality is reflected in the price.

Tips on protecting yourself when selling privately online:

  • Ask the buyer for ID with an address and landline telephone number; if they're reluctant to give this information, be wary
  • Also be wary if the buyer offers more than the asking price or gives a cheque for a higher value and asks for change.
  • Where possible be paid cash during office hours which you pay into the bank immediately, but this isn't always possible. If you do decide to accept cash, try to get it handed over in a bank, so you can pay it in immediately and the cashier can check for fake notes. If your buyer gives you cash outside banking hours, pay it in as soon as possible.
  • A safer payment option is electronic transfer. It allows you to transfer funds online, but it can take a few days, so don't release the pushchair until the bank tells you the funds have been successfully transferred.
  • Personal cheques and bank or building society cheques can cause problems. Personal cheques can be cancelled or issued without the available funds in the account, so if you've already handed over the pushchair, you could be left out of pocket. Despite common belief, bank or building society cheques aren't as good as cash; forged cheques are common.
  • Ask the bank if you can draw funds against the cheque; asking if the cheque has cleared can mean something different.
  • If possible, go with the buyer to the bank to draw the cheque.
  • If you experience fraud of any sort relating to transactions on Pushchair Expert, please report it immediately to us at: info@pushchairtrader.co.uk
